Cafe2U on the filmset of Tyrannasour

Coffee & TV
By East Leeds Magazine Editorial Staff, July 2010

Tracey Peck and her partner Steve Dyson run two 'Cafe2U’ vans selling quality coffee plus snacks and sandwiches. Normally they can be found in and around the business parks at Thorpe Park, Seacroft and also further afield in Wakefield and Barnsley. But recently they've been hobnobbing with film directors, producers and actors at the various film sets in and around East Leeds for the film 'Tyrannasour'.

Tracey explains: "We take our job as a barista really seriously. Steve made it through to the semi-finals of the UK Barista Championships this year. We also serve award winning coffee; we won a UK National Bevex Award for the best mobile coffee experience. The location manager had used ‘Cafe2U’ before in Manchester. He just wanted a decent cup of coffee when they were filming so he looked up the franchises and found ours in Colton. Once they made contact with us we had an informal meeting to discuss the coffee habits of the crew, times, locations etc, we could be serving in Seacroft at 4pm and then in Leeds City Centre at 10.30 depending on the shoot times. Tracey and Steve ended up in Lincoln Green, Seacroft, Killingbeck Cemetery, Crossgates and in and around the Staging Post serving up cuppas to the likes of Peter Mullan, Paddy Considine & Olivia Colman.

We got to know all the cast and also the crew. There seems to be a lot of hanging about when it comes to filming and we were happy for our coffee to help fill in the gaps. The stills photographer - Jack English - would regularly pester the unit manager to ring me up and get me to go to the set so he could get his brew and would often buy two at a time to keep him going. They asked me to be an extra and after my daily round I then went to the Staging post to film the funeral wake. I was a pub extra but was sat next to the 2 main characters. I had a few beers and a few laughs with Peter Mullan in the Staging Post, which brought back a few memories of my youth. No, not with Peter Mullan, I mean the Post!”

After we'd sprayed rose petals in her path, sounded fan fares etc, Tracey continued about her acting debut:

"I just had to sit there straight faced, pretty much like you do at funerals, it seemed to take forever to film, I don't think I need to prepare an Oscar winning speech just yet."

On the last day of filming Tracey brought Abby and James - her son and daughter along:

"Like I said earlier, there's a lot of hanging about on film sets and they got bored after a while but the rebel in me was quietly amused when Abby wandered onto the set and refused to budge! I'll miss it, I got used to having everyone around but I'm told they're filming Frost around here soon and they'll be using our services for that."

Tracey and Steve are available for events in an around the region.
